During a recent Spirit Guide session, a client expressed frustration because she felt like no one wanted to pay for her services and she was expected to do her work for free. The kicker was that she was advertising her services as “suggested donation.” She was afraid to set prices because she didn’t want to deter people.
So, you want money for your work, but you're afraid to charge a fee because you don't want to turn away the people who aren't willing to pay you? Hmmm...
I understand this problem all too well because it was one I struggled with for years.
I remember being disappointed because I felt like people did not value my work enough to pay me for it. I went back and forth about settings fees for my services. There were numerous hang-ups I had about requesting compensation for my work. I came to the realization that the main issue at hand was that I DID NOT value my work. Really, I was questioning whether my work was valuable enough for people to pay for it. And from that space of insecurity, I had created the story that no one would want to pay for my services. My story created that experience over and over again.
Once I became aware of this self-doubt, I had to create a new set of beliefs for myself. These new beliefs would confirm and affirm that my work is highly valuable and desired by those who believed the same. Once I became stable in those beliefs, I finally began to attract clients who were more than happy to pay me. I was finally able to do the work that I love in a way that feels sustainable and empowering.
Through that whole process, I came to understand how we often self-sabotage out of insecurity and doubt about our value and our ability to receive what we need and desire. But, as I learned, by being honest with ourselves about our wants, we bring to surface any self-defeating beliefs we have around meeting those desires. We can then do the necessary work to clear our paths.
