Maferefun Oshun! The Yoruban Goddess of sweet water;
Queen of witches; Orisha of love, joy, sensuality, fertility, and prosperity.
Use this ritual to invoke Oshun to bring material and financial abundance
into your life.
Yellow or gold cloth
Flowers (sunflowers and/or yellow roses)
Cup of water
Plant (if altar is not set up outside)
Dish for honey
Any other materials you desire: Mirror, jewels, crystals (such as amber,
diamonds, or citrine. Oshun likes beautiful things!
Pink candle (preferably in a jar)
Paper and writing utensil
Moon Phase: Waxing Moon (the moon is getting larger in the sky, moving
from the New Moon towards the Full Moon
Day of the week: Friday is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty,
sensuality, and finances.
Create an altar for Oshun. Make it pretty! Your altar can be created
anywhere and on any surface, as long as it is a place here it won’t be
disturbed physically or energetically.
If you have yellow or gold fabric, place that on the surface.
Place your flowers on the altar.
Place a cup of water on the altar
Place a dish of honey on the altar as well. Taste the honey before you offer it to Oshun. She was once given tainted honey and is careful about the honey she consumes.
Say a prayer for Oshun to invoke her. Say whatever comes to your heart. Oshun loves to be complimented and praised for her beauty! Be honest and open with her as you ask for her guidance in assistance in bringing financial abundance to your life. Ask her to clear the path way so that money can flow to you with ease. Appeal to Oshun’s own love of abundance and beautiful things.
Light the pink candle.
Pour some water into a plant or onto the ground as an offering.
Take your sheet of paper and write down your expenses— housing, food, utilities, transportation, business, etc.
Smear honey on the paper and fold it.
Place the sheet of paper under the pink candle.
Keep the candle burning until it goes out.
Keep the sheet of paper under the candle until the full moon.
On the full moon, take the sheet of paper and place it in a bowl of water, preferably water from a river if you are able to obtain it.
Place the bowl of water in the moonlight, inside or outside (especially if water freezing temperatures outside).
In the morning, take the bowl of water and water your plants with it. If you have no plants, water plants outside.
Give thanks to Oshun for the blessings she has bestowed upon you.
You can now dismantle your altar, or keep it up if you feel called to!
